My mid-year break was quite busy.

I stayed at home for the first week at home writing an assignment for a course I am doing by distance learning with a UK University. I sat at the computer for about 14 hours every day. It was really miserable and stressful. Anyway, I finished the assignment and uploaded it 2 hours before the deadline - so, you see I understand about my students' problems with deadlines and uploading!

I spent the next day doing errands and getting ready to travel. On Friday 23rd January I got a taxi to Dubai airport and flew to Riga. (Does anybody know where Riga is?) My daughter also flew to Riga from Glasgow and we met at Riga airport. It was very late when I arrived, but Riga is very lively on a Friday night so we managed to find somewhere to eat. The next day we walked all around the city, took lots of photos and did some shopping. On Sunday we did a bus tour round the city. Riga is a very cute city with cobbled streets and many interesting buildings - the architecture is distinctive. The weather was cold, the river was frozen, and there was some snow on the ground. I was a bit disappointed that it didn't snow while we were there. We really liked Riga because the people were friendly (and spoke English!), it was familiar in some ways but new in other ways and there weren't many tourists there. We left on Monday lunchtime and I was very tired when I got back.

On Thursday I drove to Madinat Zayed City to do my ID card. The journey took me a long time because it was so foggy. I had to wait 4 hours to do the card, but I am happy that I managed to do it.

Apart from that, I have bought some clothes in the sales, read lots of magazines, phoned my friends, sat in the sun, tidied my house and slept a lot!
