The last grammar topic we did in class was comparisons ...

What can I compare?

In the Eid holiday, I went to the UK to see my daughter. The UK is much colder than the UAE, and much wetter, too, so I wore some thicker clothes and took an umbrella with me everywhere!
I did a lot of driving and petrol is definitely more expensive in the UK - in fact, it is much more expensive than here. When I hired a car, they tried to give me a big car and I said, 'No, give me a smaller one because I will spend less on petrol!" The drivers are maybe a bit crazier here than in the UK, but in some ways UK roads are more dangerous than UAE roads because they are busier and in the countryside they are much narrower and are not as straight as the roads here - there are many more bends. In the cities, however, there is a better bus service than here so it is more common for people (even businessmen) to use public transport.
Food in restaurants is more expensive in the UK, too, so, if you don't want to spend a fortune, you must be more careful when you choose from the menu!

What is good in the UK?
Well, the bookshops are better and there is a greater variety of shops in the malls. Unfortunately, I find it easier to spend money in the UK! There are also more theatre shows, art exhibitions, concerts and museums, so there is a bigger choice of things to do.
